Independence Waiver

This program is designed for individuals age 18-59 and older who have a physical disability that is likely to last indefinitely combined with substantial functional limitations. 

These may include mobility and community limitations requiring nursing facility level of care.  Qualified individuals must not have a primary diagnosis of mental health, mental retardation or be ventilator dependent to qualify.

Services include:

  • Personal Assistance Services (PAS) - bathing, dressing, cleaning, meal preparation, shopping
  • Respite Care
  • Home Modifications
  • Assistive Technology
  • Personal Emergency Response System

 

Family members (other than a spouse or parent of a minor) may be hired as a paid caregiver under PAS and respoite care if the family member does not reside in the client's household.

Competitive Tuition Rates

Classes are Evenings:  5:00pm – 9:00pm
Weekend Clinical:  7:30am – 1:30pm; 7:30am – 2:00pm (Rydal Park, Jenkintown, PA 19046)

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a 7th grade level (English assessment will be conducted)
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • 2-Step Mantoux (PPD) test
  • Physical Exam
  • $100 Registration Fee
  • Resume
  • Personal statement (2 paragraph statement about why you want to be a Nursing Assistant)
  • Documentation that you are eligible to accept employment in the U.S.
  • Be able to stand for extensive periods, lift a minimum of 40lbs., and have full use of hands
